    Rhinoplasty is performed to correct the appearance of the nose so that balance and harmony with the other facial features are restored. This is known as cosmetic rhinoplasty. Functional rhinoplasty is performed for issues like difficulty breathing and nose bleed.

    Plastic surgeons as well as ENT surgeons are trained to perform rhinoplasty although plastic surgeons are more versed with performing cosmetic rhinoplasty whereas ENT surgeons usually perform functional rhinoplasty.

    Rhinoplasty is usually performed after 18 years after the patient has achieved most growth.

    Although minor corrections can be on an outpatient basis most cases are done in OT under general anaesthesia.

    It can be external by placing the incision onto the skin or internal if the incision is placed along the inner lining of the nose. Either augmentation or reduction of the various subunits of the nose can then be performed.

    Immediately after surgery expect to feel groggy and disoriented as the general anaesthesia wears off. Also, you will be required to breathe through your mouth as the nasal pack will be placed blocking your nostril.

    Some swelling and bruising are inevitable post-surgery which gradually resolve over the next 48-72 hours.

    A nasal splint will be placed post-surgery for a week for proper healing to take place.

    Around 6 months when all tissue swelling is the complete, final result can be expected.
